I like to see how and why people come up with their vampire names. I've always found it interesting. Mine was easy. I've always loved the name Nemesis, from both greek and roman mythologies, even thought my character only uses just one of her characteristics...and that is the wings. Remember, up until like a year ago my vamp name was 'nemesis_wings' until I asked Raven to change it. In the mythologies, Nemesis was the only goddess to be graced with wings. Fascinating story.
So how did you come about your vamps name? oh..and if your vampire name is different ingame than what you role play...why do you do that as well?

Not really as nice as Beth's lol. But I had this weird art teacher in middle school who called me Laura Gittelbug not really sure why he called me it other than my last name starts with Gittel... when i started rping i had used the name for an aol screen name so when i started rpig that was my first choice.
Um... other names were taken and "Seppuku" just appealed to me at the time, as I have a fascination with Japanese war history (history in general, really) and the act of seppuku was interesting to me... and my character has tried countless times to commit seppuku and it never worked so... the name fits, even if it's really a nickname. His real name, however - Haakon Dominic Marcellus - means "high son of the lord Mars." Though, the name 'Dominic' means of the Lord, in reference to God and not the Roman god Mars, but Sepp doesn't believe in God so nya... >.> And Sepp's father is the Purgatorian god of war, so it all just ties back in with my love of war, politics, and history. o.o Yep... that's about it. <.<

0.O Mine seems much less funny now, lol. But originally I started out with Driretlan, but it was taken IG and on RBRP, so I added an ish, like the good unimaginative lil kid I was at the time, since then however I've revised it, Driretlanish is the name he assumed after leaving his mortal existance behind, his human name is Alexandre La Rouchiar. The only truly ironic thing is the person who took the name I originally wanted, Driretlan, became my very first sire, since then I've had two others, Hessian Xeneri, and Viral Ashenvale, I'm quite happy with mah new fam and plan on keeping them, so now he's Dri Ashenvale

Hmm Toshiya Sengoku...it was just a name that caught my eye. And it happened to play well with the IGN: Abandoned Toy. I used that because Toshiya's storyline starts off with him being abandoned/disowned by his family for choosing to become a male model against his father's wishes. That's what landed him in Ravenblack. Of course, now that he has a family, the name doesn't quite fit anymore but its either keep it or pay the 15 dollars to change it.
Post by Aneres Moonieon - Sleeping on Aug 4, 2008 19:14:21 GMT -5
Aneres was created in 1999 when I first started to RP. She started out as a Sailor Moon char and from there she was changed to fit whatever RP I was doing with the same common factor of being the Death Angel.
Back then I went by Serena which is the English name for Usagi of Sailor Moon's human form. So when I was thinking of a name for my char, it was simply Serena backwards which makes Aneres. (I do say I came up with that before Serena Williams. Blah her)
The Death Riders were created around the same time.
Mort - meaning Death in French Jed Ed - Because Kittie wanted an Ed Alro Toshi
Mort's IGN is DeathRider because there is already a Mort in the game and the others are JedDeathRider, EdDeathRider, AlroDeathRider, Toshi D Rider - because ToshiDeathRider wouldn't fit.
Mort Altor Gryps (Latin-Griffin) was all found in a Dictionary, same with Alro and Toshi.
Can't find the right dictionaries that I used. Oh well, that's the basics of it.
When I started playing, the name Elektra just popped into my head and I decided to use that. A couple of days later, I found out how to be a master vampire, but by then, I was too attached to the name to create a new vampire with no sire. Hahaha...
Nightshade (which is Chiru's human name) was started around the same time Aneres was made, she was also a Sailor Scout, Nightshade the Senshi of the Universe. Her grandmother was Sailor Universe and hence instead of the whole "Chibi Universe" I went with Nightshade. Deadly and yet Beautiful.
Blood is based around Nightshade that was used in another RP and I had written a book around. Where she was a very dark creature who hated her mother (Darkness) but was very close to her father (Chaos) and her brother (Grim Reaper) though she was dark and harsh towards her brother, she only listened to him and her father. She did listen to her mother out of pure fear. This is of course became the name Blood which started out as Nightshade Blood and then just shorten to Blood IC.
Chii is based around another character I play, who was Chiru named as well. A little 3/4 demon 1/4 human creature. Who had three personalities as well, Chii was child like and very kind and sweet. Scared that the "evil angels" were gonna hurt her. She had two other forms. A form where she didn't feel nothing would keep going no matter what was happening to her body and a state between the two where she believed she was a human and didn't know nothing about angels or demons.
Doll/Runa is based around the other Chiru, where Chii comes into play. Runa is a doll needless to say which is based around the "mother" aka "Darkness" who spoke sweet words as though she cared but didn't care a lick about the child she had bared. Doll is based around the very being that moved without fault and did what she was told without fault.
One-With-Wolves is based around more Chiru from another roleplay where she was a cat demon as well as Serene from the sailor moon. She was wise in her ways and saw things for what they were. I removed the completely childness from the other roleplay with Chiru.
Chiru is a mixture of all these characters taken parts of this and that, which wasn't used in other roleplays to make her what she was.
As for the name: Chiru means Blood Reborn, which after she was turn she became nothing like her other parts and was nothing more then like Blood is now. Hence when she lost/sealed away, Chiru was what was left and instead of calling her Blood Reborn I called her Chiru.
I got the name Chiru because in the first roleplay I used the name in, the character was the last of her kind and was thought to be dead. So it just sounded cool to have it.
Shuukaksha means Reaper. It started out as Chiru's father name and instead of just leaving it like that I added the maru onto it (which is common in boy names) So when I made the vampire she became Chiru Shuukakshamaru (or in other words Blood Reborn Reaper)

Lucies name was developed when i decided I wanted a dark name for my character. And well my pet at the time was Lucifer and I thought something related to that would be nice. Thats when Lucies popped into my head so far I havnt heared of anyone using the name at all.
Emaleth once again was from something that I read and obviously liked.
Eliasson is my best friends middle name and since he has always been there for me. I asked for permission to use his middle name for my character. Though I dont think i needed permission.

Hmm...Malicous' name was originally Talim Isogowa. It was a name that had caught my eye and I liked. But after a while, I realized that I sorta lost site of what I wanted Talim to be like so I started using his Ingame name, Malicous. Now, I know Malicous is not the correct spelling. Its M-A-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. Yes, I can spell >>. But Malicious was taken and I settled. In ways, its pronounced the same way and the name is basically self explanatory. He's a malicious guy one way or another.
Inshin name isn't really Inshin its Hiko I took his name from Rurouni Kenshin and that is what Inshin was based off at the time. I made the name Inshin up, I don't even think its a real Japanese name lol.
Post by Angelique White Wolf on Aug 12, 2008 18:48:13 GMT -5
Adila was really Angelique's first name back when I signed up on rbrp again and in turn made her IGN that. Adila was based off an old character of mine, but after Angel was sired, half powered, I went back to normal roleplaying and decided to change her name to somemore more unique.
So Angelique was born.
And White Wolf, It randomly popped into my head, I didn't even know there was a site called White Wolf at the time.

My ingame name is the alias ive been using for probably five years now-- sphinxfalcon used to be the suffx for an Angelfire website I made when I was like 13, stemming from my obsession with Egypt-- Sphinx, plus a falcon for Horus.
The name didnt stick at first but then i used it more and more as i found it was google-unique. So now, if you google sphinxfalcon, EVERYTHING that comes up is about me.
As to my in character name, Shiranami, meaning white wave, is the Japanese translation of my first name, Jennifer. And Ilaria means... -has to go check her name website- "cheerful" from the Greco-Roman root Hilaris.

It's very interesting to see how everyone came to the vamp names... Mine wasn't quite as creative. I had developed a bit of a recurring theme with diseases, poisons and so on. Generally the slow ways of removing someone from the world. 'Thrax', in reference to Anthrax, was something I used after I was found quite good using a character by the same name in a game.
So when I was brought to RBRP by a friend (to whom I am very grateful) I needed a name. To keep with my current recurring theme of the time I played with a few words. Plague tempted me for a long time, but I wasn't making a bad guy, atleast not a blatant one. It was just too bold. Backed down alittle to Virus. I finished with Viral because it was alittle less sharp and threatening than Virus.
Of course, I was creating him spontaneously. His human name, how he got to his current name, well, that was all going to be part of the fun of it. I just got his present personality ect nailed so I could get started.

My story is less than romantic compared to some of you out there. I hate girly barbie doll names (sorry to those those who have cutesy names...) But that was pretty much the story behind Drew's name. I played with names that could go either way, some sounding pretty...erm manly, so I decided to go for one that seemed less than that. And in all honesty, now that i have named her Drew, I really can't see any manly men playing a Drew anyways. So in a sense I guess it's more of a girl name?
I've always loved the name Zachariah, so that's my story. Lame and short, but that is how it is. I love a few others, but happened to see the name I was originally going to use signed up for RBPB, so I went with my second option.
Post by Evangelina Emaleth on Jun 12, 2009 14:08:58 GMT -5
I chose the name Evangelina because I thought it was a beautiful name. Plus, there's a bunch of nicknames I could be called like Evey, Evangeline, Ella. The name was unique to me, since I haven't heard it often before.
Back when I first started rping (I think it was 1998 or 1999) online I was writing in a PBeM based in Anne McCaffery's world of Pern. I had joined two groups at about the same time and in each group I created one character and adopted a character that was already there, but hadn't been played in a long while. One of those characters was named Arimil (coincidentally, that is Jadeleath & Amdis' daughter's name so that's where that name came from too). Now in that game Arimil had impressed a green dragon by the name of Jadeleath.
In those groups everything was done via e-mail, but there was a core group of us that would get onto AIM and chat, discuss upcoming events and storylines, just do whatever. I hadn't used AIM before at that time and needed a unique name so I chose that of Arimil's dragon, Jadeleath. I still have the character of Arimil with her precious Jadeleath, though that group has wound down considerably. (Oddly enough, in 11 years, Arimil's only aged about 3 or 4 years... hmm, seems it's time to look into that.)
My RBC vamp, Jadeleath, her history was somewhat based on Arimil's, what with her childhood abuse and such. Oh, now this is a twisted story indeed... Some may know that I also play a vamp named Milakaz... In the story of Arimil (with her dragon Jadeleath), the name of the abusive father of Arimil was Milakaz. I'd originally made the vamp in city of Milakaz as just a coin alt (same for Arimil in the city) but things ended up changing... My dear friend Syn asked me to create a child character under her and since I already had Milakaz we just sired them under Syn and I created a new backstory for her, also changing her gender.
There you have it, the origins of three of the characters that I run... heh
So I play a few other vamps... I used to take care of a friend's kids every weekend and they constantly saw me playing RBC and wanted in on it. Young Bailey was only 10, too young to do much of anything save move around on the city grid. I helped him create a vampire, under my own main (yes, under Jadeleath) and we tried a few combinations or names that he came up with, but nothing worked, already taken. Until we tried Cod, as in the fish... Well it worked. I promised Bailey that I'd help run Cod for him, work on his powers and all.
Then one day I moved out of the area, doomed to probably never see Bailey again, yet I still had this vampire that was created for him. In the course of powering him I contacted Jade's family for a charisma quest and Jade's sire, Chrystal, asked who Cod was. Thinking quickly on my feet I simply said, Oh, it's my son (said in character as Jade). Then of course she wanted to meet him... I put my head together with a friend and they came up with the actor used for Cod, plus the full version of his name, Codelious. So in the city he is Cod (pronounced Code), but his full name is Codelious, even if he goes by Cody.
That same friend that helped me by finding an actor for me also made his first banner for me, one where the background was changing colors, but the foreground was stationary and he was holding a playing card... I based his entire history, his life story and his gambling addiction off of that one card in his banner. You never know what will affect how a character goes.
