History:[/color] Not too much is known about Blade's past because, for the most part, she doesn't speak of it. What is known, however, really isn't all that interesting.
At the turn of the twentieth century, a European archaeologist --Alfons, was his name-- met a young Egyptian woman. Her name was pronounced "Ahnkah", but there was no known spelling, since the woman and her family were illiterate. "Ahnkah" was very beautiful, with golden-brown skin toasted from the hot Egyptian days, chocolate-brown eyes, and long black hair. Instantly, Alfons was attracted and despite their ethnic and age differences (he was German and 43; she was a mulatto and 19), they decided to elope three weeks after meeting. They soon after consummated their marriage and, by chance, the Egyptian woman became pregnant.
The two lived happily in the crowded city of Cairo for the 9 months that she was pregnant. On October 19, 1903, Rayne Arashi Caern was born. Unfortunately, the girl's mother didn't make it through the pregnancy, due to the lack of medical technology at the time. Alfons was a busy man and didn't quite want to take a child around the world with him, so he went to England, where he his brother had moved to. Alfons dropped Rayne off with his brother, "Uncle Archie", and she had a normal childhood in the city of Bristol.
At the age of 18, however, tragedy struck when Uncle Archie died in a freak accident. Distressed at the lost, Rayne decided not to stay in England, and decided to sail across the Atlantic to the United States, which seemed perfect in the booming '20's. She cramped herself into a boat with a family of Poles and made her way to New York. Back then, the jobs were tough and didn't pay well, so Rayne took to pickpocketing. For her own protection, she always carried around a pocket knife inside her ragged jackets, and that's how the nickname "Blade" became coined. It stuck.
Blade spent a mere year in New York before she managed to travel (via train, mostly) down to Louisiana, where she expected herself to live another 40 years and eventually, die. Needless to say, it didn't quite happen that way.
In Louisiana, Blade met a man named Sebastien in the marketplace. Sebastien was very handsome, with white-blond hair and angular facial features. He was tall and lean, and Blade was more than happy to accept his request to go out on a date. She was 23 by then and had yet to settle down with anyone (this would reflect in later years: she sucks at relationships). The two quickly became lovers, and travelled for some months, roaming the vastness that is the United States. Eventually in their travels, they stumbled upon a distinctly vampiric city called Ravenblack. Blade was pulled towards the city, but Sebastien wanted no part of it. They had a painful parting.
For the first 10 months or so that Blade was in the city, she did nothing but bite humans and get herself acquainted with the ghettoes. During this time, she watched the stronger vampires in the city with awe and decided to try and learn what they already knew. That was when she took her first sire, Aarkan. Aarkan taught her the basics of the city, gave her all the neccessary tools to learn. Her sister and best friend at the time, Thierry, helped her along until Blade thought she had learned all she could from Aarkan. She talked to one of her friends about the possibility of severing Aarkan, but she was yet undecided. Word leaked to Aarkan that she was thinking of severance, and he decided to do the honours himself.
They stopped talking.
Distraught, Blade reached out to one of her newest and closest friends, Ace Tiger. Ace decided to take her under his wing as his first childe, and Blade became a Wilde. Around that same time, Blade had dated and then bound to Naimira-sama, linking her to the very family she would soon (officially) be a part of: the D'darys. Once Ace severed from his sire, Majica, tugging Blade and a few other siblings that he'd picked up along the way to his new sire: Sartori.
Blade had talked to Sartori a few times, the first time being when he asked his childe's hand in marriage. To be blunt: Blade absolutely adored the D'darys. She felt as if she belonged there, and honestly never wanted to leave them. Despite her happiness with her family, she and Naimira had grown distant, and so they severed. She stayed single for a while, before she got closer to one of her earlier friends, Andre Lenoig.
Not long after they started to date, Andre Lenoig (Legion) asked to bind to Blade, to which she happily agreed. Honestly, they may have rushed it, but Blade couldn't be happier. Legion was everything she could ever want or ask for. Being with him was bliss.
They lasted just short of 4 months.
It was a mistake, and it wasn't supposed to end the way it did. Blade's longtime friend, Daly, hated the D'darys with his whole heart and he was bound to Shina, who was being attacked at the time. Blade and Daly got into an arguement because Daly was accusing the D'darys of hitting him and then turning the attacks on Shina, when really they hit Shina first and then hit Daly because he was standing at her side. No matter what she said, Daly refused to believe her and kept on raving about the D'darys. Finally, Blade snapped and let Daly listen to the recorded tapes of the D'dary family conversation about the attacks. Clearly now, he could hear that they had hit Shina first and decided to hit Daly later.
She thought it'd end there, and didn't think again about what she'd done until she awoke later that night to the sound of glass shattering and skin burning. Opening her eyes, she saw her family, the people she loved, hitting her with Holy Water. And there was Legion, hitting right along with them, demanding his ring back. Her link with her childe, Jaenelle, was broken. Obviously, Blade was confused, and so she went to a few friends for answers. They told her that Daly had taken the tapes and given them to his sire, using them to make the D'darys seem like scum.
Blade didn't blame Daly. If she hated the D'darys as much as he did, she'd probably do the same, but that wasn't how she meant the tapes to be used at all. She didn't know they'd go past their conversation. But, what was done was done, and there was no turning back. After a short fight with Legion, Blade went to the Hall of Severance and severed her sire, Ace, and her partner, Andre Louvain. Later that day, she'd sever 3 more childer, at their request.
The D'darys wanted to zero her, and they eventually did, but she didn't go down without a fight. She hit back as much as she could but finally, she was beaten, just as she knew she would be. Her friend, Mandolin, brought Blade to her house to rest during torpor. When she awoke 2 weeks later, she was weak and hurt, concentrating on her childe and regaining her blood. It took her a month to finally move on from Ace, and she sired under Lady bondage.
The months passed. Blade watched as Legion rebound to RemipunX, only to sever not long after due to Remi's betrayal. Not long after, he bound to MavericksChild, a rather entertaining woman. She watched as her ex-sire, Ace, got severed due to the same thing. All the while, Blade kept quiet in her new line, joining a clan (the Republic of Ravenblack), and befriending a few people that she hoped to keep for years to come. But really, she waited. Waited for the time that she'd be back in business again, happy and bubbly and fighting alongside people she cared about once more.
That's where she is now. Waiting. She's always been good with patience.
