He knew he had to face him, though he wasn’t looking forward to how the evening would turn out. In the ideal world Dri would be happy for him and they could still be friends, but he’d learned as but a small child that idealism never put food on the table. Sure it could bring a smile to your face, but when all is said and done you were more likely to be wearing a frown.
In his life he’d only loved one man, Dri. When Michael had been a Xeneri it had been Dri, then a veritable stranger to him, that had picked up the pieces of him after Lady Senaiya had left him. He owed Dri his life, his sanity, which was why he had to talk to him rather than just disappearing on him and never returning.
When last they had been together he had been married to Anna, but she had actually arranged it so that they could spend time together and be intimate. Then he’d started to change. Lizzy had come back into his life, the woman that he had first fallen in love with, the one that he’d truly loved in his heart since the moment he saw her. When he’d been with her originally there had come a night when she’d been gone for a couple of weeks and Topaz, Lady Senaiya’s alter ego, had essentially seduced him with her blood, magically luring him away. When next he saw Lizzy he confessed to everything and she spurned him. Topaz had bound to him and he’d spent his every waking moment trying to make all of her personalities happy. In the end she’d kicked him to the side in favor of one of her children. That had hurt immensely, but then in swooped Dri. He’d stopped Michael’s killing spree, he’d drawn the pain away, and touched his mind while he was at it.
With Lizzy’s return though, and her forgiveness of him, he was finally able to be the man he’d been before the whole mess. He’d gone to Anna and spoken with her then severed her, letting her have her freedom. A few weeks later he’d bound to Lizzy and they had been on their honeymoon ever since. A couple of night prior they had finally returned, after being gone for more than a month, and with his return he knew he had to speak to Dri.
After explaining to his wife what he intended on doing, he headed off to the Lounge, deciding it would be as good a place as any for the confrontation, plus with it being public then neither of them were likely to cause too much of a scene. As he headed down the road he kept his eyes open for criminal activity, the vampire cop was back on duty.
It didn’t take long to arrive at the Lounge and he ordered himself a scotch then went to sit at a booth off to the side, facing the door, so that he could watch for the only man that would ever hold a piece of his heart. Softly he called out to him in a telepathic message, Dri love. I’ve missed you… Could you perhaps meet me in the Lounge? I’d like to see you. He knew he could have given some sort of warning, but at the same time he needed to look him in the eyes when they spoke.
